Intergenerational Living

We had to develop a proposal for communal living accommodation, on the first floor of a site on Sauchiehall Street. This was a collaborative project with another student, and they developed an intergenerational day care centre on the ground floor. This project attempts to address current and future social and economic issues such as the demise of the high street. Project 'together' aims to bring young and old people together in an environment of mutual respect and interdependency. My main inspiration was Japanese design, focusing on natural light throughout the space, open-planned interior and materials such as lauan plywood to create, clean, contemporary aesthetic. I also stick to the 5S's of organisation: sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain to make this space adaptable for all generations. I wanted this space to improve the mental health in both younger and older generations, to also fight loneliness they may be feeling.
